Ballistic protection conjured up for Merlin

Permali Gloucester has supplied ballistic protection kits to AgustaWestland for the Merlin Mk3 helicopters operated by the Royal Air Force. These armour kits provide vital protection to the crew and troops travelling in these helicopters on Operations.

Permali worked closely with the Design Authority, AgustaWestland, to develop lightweight ballistic panels for the Merlin in a very short and aggressive programme under an Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR) to support the deployment of Merlins to Theatre.

Permali was selected as the armour panel supplier due to the superior performance of their lightweight armour panels.

'Permali demonstrated their commitment to the MoD's Urgent Operational Requirement Programme both by overall speed of execution and continuing to work over the Christmas holiday period. The end result was that the Agustawestland / MoD Joint Modification Service was able to equip Merlin aircraft with Ballistic Protection for use in theatre in record time'.
